Treasury Warrant of George Blackburn

The Kentucky Genealogical Society joins the Kentucky Historical Society in hosting a series of free genealogy workshops each month at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.

This January, join us in welcoming guest speaker, Kandie Adkinson, as she navigates the complex subject of Kentucky Land Records!

Topic: Kentucky Land Records 

Session 1: Fundamentals of the Kentucky Land Patenting Process
This session will cover the various types of warrants for the different patent series. A portion of this session will also cover website access through the Secretary of State’s office.
Session 2: Questions, Challenges, & Successes
This hour will be devoted to a deeper understanding of the challenges involved with using land records. Attendees are invited to bring their questions for discussion. Ms. Adkinson will also outline some of the successful uses of land records that she has encountered over the years.
About the Speaker: 

Ms. Adkinson’s 35 years of public service have been dedicated to Kentucky Land Patents. For 6.5 years she worked at the Kentucky Historical Society in the Records Preservation Lab. She has been associated with the Secretary of State’s Land Office since 1984. In 2011 the Kentucky Historical Society presented Kandie the Anne Walker Fitzgerald Award for her articles regarding tax list research published in “Kentucky Ancestors.”

Morning session runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by a 15 minute break. Second session runs from 11:45-12:45 p.m. Registration for these free workshops is strongly encouraged. However, walk-ins are welcome.
