Make 2019 the year you begin your genealogy journey! Connecting to our ancestors is an amazing experience – and while the research can feel daunting, this workshop will get you started on a firm foundation. We will cover the basics such as:  Research strategies Online resources Offline resources (libraries/archives) Family interviews/artifacts Family tree software Using fundamental records (census, vital statistics, marriage, probate) Organization/storage and sharing with family Further educational resources to guide you on your way! This workshop is $8 for KHS members OR $10 + $8 general admission for non-members. Seating is limited – pre-registration is required. Please pre-register by calling 502-782-8118.

Family History Writers Share In @ Kentucky Historical Society
The Family History Writers Share-In is an informal gathering designed to provide you with a positive environment where you can discuss your writing.  Participants come from all points on the writing spectrum, from “never done this before” to bloggers to published authors.  You can share something you have been working on, provide feedback to others or just sit back and absorb the creative energy of the group.  The one thing that unites the group is a desire to write about family in a way that gets read. The Share-In happens every month on the 4th Saturday from 10:30AM-12:30PM.  Seating is limited – so please pre-register for each session you plan to attend! Join our Library staff for the next level of the D.N.A. Interest Group (D.I.G.) – Book Club Edition! In 2018, we hosted a 6 month long D.I.G. Chat (DNA Interest Group) – For 9 months of 2019 (March-November), we will be taking the D.I.G. concept further for more advanced talks through book discussions. With the Book Club Edition, you have two levels of participation to choose from – both happening at the same time. Pick your level and register for that class. Seating is limited and each class will be capped at 20 participants. Beginner Level Book:  The Family Tree Guide to DNA Testing and Genetic Genealogy by Blaine Bettinger Advanced Level Book: Genetic Genealogy in Practice by Blaine Bettinger and Debbie Parker Wayne Once you register for one of the classes, it is your responsibility to acquire the book selected for your class choice. Print or electronic editions are permitted. Some print copies may be available in our 1792 Store closer to the start of classes. Don’t worry, if you want to take both classes, our plan is to repeat this series next year, so those in the beginner class can take the advanced level in 2020. The dates and times of both classes will be the same: 2-4 p.m. on the 4th Saturday of the month, March – November. Seating is limited – so please register for your class choice prior to the event! Join our Library staff on the 5th Saturday of every month from 2-4PM for tea time and good old fashioned conversation. Have an ancestor that is eluding you? Confused about which source to use next? Have questions about the proof standard or how to get the kids involved? Bring along your genealogy issues, hot topics or questions and the group will try to help you out. Even if we can’t solve your problem, we promise to provide lots of tea and sympathy! All research levels welcome – let’s learn from each other’s experiences! Each Genealogy Tea and Sympathy session is Free for KHS members OR part of the KHS’ general admission.
