The Kentucky Genealogical Society joins the Kentucky Historical Society in hosting a series of free genealogy workshops each month at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. This April, join us in welcoming guest speaker, Debra Renard, as she introduces us to the wonderful world of DNA! Session 1: The ABCs of DNA This session will teach attendees about the basic genetic terminology & concepts, the main types of tests available for genealogical purposes, their inheritance patterns and their limitations. They will also learn how to identify their testing goal and which test would best meet that goal Session 2: Why Y?  Patrilineal DNA Research for Genetic Genealogy Topics covered will include Y-DNA inheritance, types of Y tests, testing objectives, testing company offerings, using results. About the Speaker:  Debra Renard is a full-time genealogical researcher and lecturer, andthe founder of Eureka! Genealogy. She is working toward a specialization as a genetic genealogist. She began researching her own family history in 2008 and discovered a good part of her heritage is from hearty pioneer lines, looking toward First Family status in western Pennsylvania and Ohio. She is the editor of the Louisville Genealogical Society’s Lines and By-Lines Quarterly, the Treasurer of the Kentucky Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists, a board member of the Kentucky Genealogical Society, a member of the John Marshall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a co-founder and leader of the Louisville Genetic Genealogy Special Interest Group.
