Second Saturday: Civil War Governors of Kentucky Database with Dr. Patrick Lewis @ Kentucky Historical Society | Frankfort | Kentucky | United States
**PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE! NOVEMBER WORKSHOP IS ALWAYS ON THE FIRST SATURDAY!!** The Kentucky Genealogical Society joins the Kentucky Historical Society in hosting a series of free family history workshops each month at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. This November, join us in welcoming guest speaker, Dr. Patrick Lewis, as he explores the wondrous treasures discovered in the new Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition! Session 1: Civil War Social Networking: 21st Century Reconstructions of 19th Century Kentucky  The Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWG-K) is building a research database that will allow researchers to track individual Kentuckians, understand their social and kinship networks, economic systems, patterns of political patronage, and more. Learn how CWG-K is reconstructing the lives and worlds of tens of thousands of heretofore voiceless Kentuckians—women and men, slave and free, soldiers and civilians, unionists and rebels—by identifying, imaging, transcribing, annotating, and linking together over 30,000  Civil War-era documents from archives across the nation. Enjoy this sneak-peak of a powerful tool that will change the way genealogists, historians, and teachers access, understand, and interpret Kentucky history. Session 2: Civil War CSI: Murder, Politics, and the Louisville Horse Pile  CWG-K will provide access to more than 30,000 documents, but even one on its own can raise new and fascinating questions. This session will interactively analyze an 1864 murder in Louisville. The case seems open-and-shut, but what clues should historians be picking up on here? What can this case tell us about 19th Century...

Piecing Together History: The Kentucky Bourbon Industry @ Kentucky Historical Society | Frankfort | Kentucky | United States
The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will host a free knowledge-sharing community event in Frankfort, Ky., on Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Attendees are invited to view photographs from the KHS Collections featuring various distilleries and the distilling process during the first half of the twentieth century. The “Piecing Together History” event will be at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, Martin F. Schmidt Research Library, 100 W. Broadway. For this event, KHS will select some of the most complex images we have featuring the distilling process. We need the public’s help in improving the descriptive information about the photographs. Our hope is that local experts, distilling aficionados, and Bourbon connoisseurs will attend to share their knowledge about the detailed process of distilling Bourbon in Kentucky. Selected images needing identification will include employees, equipment, and activities, but we are also interested in learning more about the social traditions unique to the various companies such as parades, car and horse races, and company baseball teams. Some of the distilleries featured in these photos include: Old Taylor, Labrot & Graham, Old Dignity, Old Joe, Stagg, Old Crow, Old Fitzgerald, O.F.C. The images from various collections have been digitized and cataloged and are available for researchers during and after the event. To view any part of the collection, visit kyhistory.com and search for “Bourbon Industry.” People who cannot attend the Nov. 29th event can submit image-specific information using the comments section at the bottom of each online image....
