These genealogy sessions will take place each Thursday night from 6:30-7:30PM, beginning March 13th and running until December 11th. All it takes is an hour to hone your research skills, get started on the basics, preserve your documents, get organized, become more familiar with genealogy software or share your genealogy success stories! Sessions are free and registration is NOT required. The Kentucky Genealogical Society joins the Kentucky Historical Society with a series of free family history workshops each month at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. This May, get started on your genealogy journey, or come for a re-fresher course on the basics of genealogy research! Presented by KHS Library Staff, Louise Jones & Cheri Daniels. Session 1: Genealogy 101 This session introduces you to the basics of genealogy: getting started, using various records,  looking at your family archives, online databases, researching in courthouses and libraries. (Given by: Cheri Daniels, MSLS) Session 2:  Genealogy 102 This session will go a step further to help you get a hands-on introduction to census records, pedigree charts, family group sheets, vital statistics, and Kentucky specific resources. We will explore the various components of the individual record types, and review what kind of information can be found within each. (Given by Louise Jones, MLS) About the speakers: Librarians, Louise Jones & Cheri Daniels have a combined 40 years experience in tracing ancestors and helping people find their roots. Louise is the Director of the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library, and Cheri is the Senior Librarian/Reference Specialist. Both head up the new online edition of Kentucky Ancestors: kentuckyancestors.org Morning session runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m., followed by an hour break for lunch. Have questions about the proof standard or how to get the kids involved? Bring along your genealogy issues, hot topics or questions and the group will try to help you out. Even if we can’t solve your problem, we promise to provide lots of tea and sympathy! All research levels welcome – let’s learn from each other’s experiences! Each Genealogy Tea and Sympathy session is free and tea is provided at the event.
