Visitors to the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library now have free access to two new databases for researching their family history:
American Periodicals (1740-1940):
“This database contains 1509 periodicals published between 1740 and 1940, including special interest and general magazines, literary and professional journals, children’s and women’s magazines and many other historically-significant periodicals.”
The Louisville Courier Journal Newspaper (1830-1922):
“This historical newspaper provides genealogists, researchers and scholars with online, easily-searchable first-hand accounts and unparalleled coverage of the politics, society and events of the time.”
Both new resources can be accessed for free while visiting the library (onsite) through your own device, or through one of the library computers. The addition of these resources brings the total number of databases available to four: Ancestry.com (Library Edition), Heritage Quest, American Periodicals, Louisville Courier Journal.
Just remember, both resources are full-text searchable, which means you can search for an individual, location, event, or keyword to discover little history treasure nuggets for your research. So far, we have seen wonderful results in the area of obituaries, commentaries, criminal court cases, and organizational honors of individuals. Their are some other great features, such as:
